Vienna based Danish dancer Fie Dam Mygind was selected by danceWEB, Vienna (AT) to participate in the workshop given by Iñaki Azpillaga.
During the five days of the workshop, participants were introduced into the dance language of Ultima Vez by exploring corporal dialogues in duo work and other complex group forms, in either improvised or fixed patterns.
feedback report by Fie Dam Mygind
I was very happy to receive a Wild Card scholarship from Jardin d'Europe for the Ultima Vez workshop led by Iñaki Azpillaga in Brussels on September 6th - 10th 2010.
The workshop lasted Monday through Friday. We worked five hours a day in the Ultima Vez studio. We were a very mixed group, a lot of different nationalities and backgrounds. The workshop was a mix of a technical warm-up mainly based on floor work, partnering from Ultima Vez repertoire and improvisation tasks which mainly focused on working with a partner. The entire workshop was guided very consciously and personally by Iñaki, who was very direct and generous in his instructions.
Iñaki's very easy going personality made the working environment very calm and relaxed; it was very nice to be a part of it. It would have been nice to move even further with the work, but I guess we would have needed more time then. We also had the opportunity, as workshop participants, to see Wim Vandekeybus' latest piece "Monkey Sandwich". It's very clear that Ultima Vez is a very important part of the Brussels dance scene, it was nice to get out of the studio and experience that, and to see the performance live.
The scholarship also covered my travel expenses and accommodation and I was given per diems to live for during my stay. This was a huge relief; I don't think I would even have considered taking the workshop otherwise as it would have been too expensive.
I really enjoyed my week in Brussels. It felt like I was actually living there for a week, - with my own place to stay and nice people to dance with every day. Thank you so much for this opportunity!
